China contributes to strong first half for Audi
Automotive group Audi delivered nearly 950,000 vehicles to its customers during the first half of 2018, an increase of 4.5% compared to the same period of last year.

This growth was driven by an increase of more than 20% in sales to China and Hong. There was also growth of 4.8% in deliveries to the US market.

The news was less positive for sales in June, the last month in this period, when Audi’s vehicle deliveries dropped 3.8% year on year. This was primarily due to a 7.2% decline in China, which the German company attributed to “the announced tariff reductions”.

“Despite the difficult environment, we performed well thanks to the positive development in Asia and North America in the first half of the year,” said Abraham Schot, Audi’s interim CEO and board member in charge of sales and marketing. “We expect a challenging, but also exciting second half of the year.”

Mr Schot was put in temporary charge of Audi after its chief executive, Rupert Stadler, was arrested in June in relation to an investigation into the emissions scandal that hit parent group, Volkswagen, back in 2015.
