ISA TanTec secures Oeko-Tex accreditation for leather labels business

ISA TrimTec, a division of leather manufacturing group ISA TanTec, has achieved certification under the Oeko-Tex leather standard. ISA TrimTec specialises in making labels and patches from bovine leather for products such as denim jeans, other apparel, bags and shoes. ISA TanTec has TrimTec production lines set up both in its China and Vietnam facilities, Heshan TanTec and Saigon TanTec.

Oeko-Tex, an independent research and testing organisation with a strong reputation in textiles and garments, launched its leather standard in 2016. Requirements for certification take into account legislation (including the demands of REACH in Europe and of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act in the US) on restricted and prohibited substances such as azo dyes, chromium VI, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol, cadmium, perfluorooctanesulphonic acid, and so on.

Another factor for Oeko-Tex is that the greater the degree of skin contact a product is likely to have, the stricter the human-ecological requirements that these products have to comply with. ISA TanTec has confirmed that its leather labels meet the highest level of human-ecological requirements, those for products that have direct contact with skin.

“This will make us an even more trusted supplier for our customers,” said ISA TanTec’s senior director for operational strategies, Carl Flach.
