The CICEG footwear industry association in the Mexican state of Guanajuato has re-elected Luis Gerardo González as its president.

The decision was made at CICEG’s annual assembly at the start of March. Mr González assumed the position in March 2017, replacing Javier Plascencia Reyes. He will serve a second term for the period 2018-19.

Speaking at the assembly, he said Mexico’s footwear exports increased 3.91% in 2017 compared to the previous year. The country exported 26 million pairs of shoes for a value of more than $475 million last year, he revealed.

The principal destinations for Mexican shoes in 2017 were the US, Singapore, Guatemala, Uruguay, Canada, Chile, Colombia and Panama, according to Mr González.
