Burberry names new chief creative officer

01/03/2018
Givenchy creative director, Riccardo Tisci, is to leave the brand to take up the role of chief creative officer at Burberry. He will take up the role on March 12. He will replace Christopher Bailey, who said in October he would leave Burberry in March 2018.

Until July 2017, Christopher Bailey had been Burberry’s chief executive as well as its chief creative officer, but the company hired Marco Gobbetti at the start of last year and appointed him as chief executive in the summer.

Moving to the London-based brand will take Mr Tisci back to familiar territory as he is a graduate of Central Saint Martins. He has been with Givenchy for ten years and worked there with Marco Gobbetti.

Announcing the appointment, Marco Gobbetti commented: “Riccardo is one of the most talented designers of our time. His designs have an elegance that is contemporary and his skill in blending streetwear with high fashion is highly relevant to today’s luxury consumer. Riccardo’s creative vision will reinforce the ambitions we have for Burberry and position the brand firmly in luxury.”
