The area was among those affected when a powerful earthquake struck central Italy in August 2016. The damage was compounded by a series of aftershocks.
Following this disaster, Tod’s chief executive, Diego Della Valle visited communities in Le Marche, the home region of his family. During the visit, he pledged that the brand would set up a new factory there to provide jobs to local people whose lives had been affected by the earthquake.
Just over a year after construction got underway, the factory has now officially opened. It is fully operational and has created 50 jobs.
Tod’s has said the decision to undertake this “aid and solidarity project” was made to bring the values of Made in Italy to life and to “turn them into common heritage”.
