Tod’s will open new factory to help earthquake-hit Le Marche

Luxury footwear brand Tod’s has said it will build a new production facility in Le Marche to help communities there recover from the effects of earthquakes that have struck in 2016.

A powerful earthquake struck central Italy at the end of August and a series aftershocks have compounded the damage. After the most recent of these, on October 30, Tod’s chief executive, Diego Della Valle visited communities in Le Marche, his family’s home region.

At the small town of Arquata del Tronto, Mr Della Valle said: “Within 10 months, or a year at most, we will have a new factory set up [in the region]. What people here need most are jobs; that’s true solidarity. For people here, whose desperation is palpable, opening factories is the best medicine.”
