Australia and Peru have concluded successfully discussions over a bilateral free-trade agreement. Both countries will now follow their own domestic treaty-making processes, at the end of which the new agreement, PAFTA, will enter into force.

Documents from Australia’s department for foreign affairs and trade confirm that the new agreement will give exporters of hides and skins from Australia duty-free access to the Peruvian market.

Other trade priorities for Australia will include beef, lamb and wine. Peru is hoping to boost its exports to Australia of products including coffee, cotton T-shirts and marble.
