Lanxess unveils leather trends for spring-summer 2019

09/11/2017
Leather chemicals company Lanxess has unveiled the latest in its leather trends reports, focusing this time on the types of leather it believes tanners will be required to develop for the spring-summer 2019 fashion season.

As usual (Lanxess produces these reports twice a year), there are four themes: the Force of Nature, Summer Aria, After The First Half and Warm Embrace.

For the first of these, the idea is that colours are subdued and convey a calm feeling after the winter. A neutral tone creates sophisticated environments and combines well with everything, Lanxess says.

In Summer Aria we see see blues and greens that represent not only spring, they embody “a desire for connection with nature”. Soft reds will also be fashionable, the report predicts, carrying an aura of innocence, tranquility and purity.

The main emphasis in After the First Half is on blues, in almost any shade: electric, marine or “soft as the blue of a glacier illuminated by the sun”. The colours of ripe fruit are also presented here to indicate an advanced stage of summer.

Finally, Warm Embrace depicts the sun at its highest; heat embraces us and we feel the energy of the season. Colours such as orange, mixed with tones of earth or yellow will be popular, while red in a variety of shades, up to orange and rose, will impose a Spanish touch.
