18/09/2017
Footwear company Anbessa Shoes has started production at a new manufacturing facility in the Ethiopian district of Akaky Kaliti. It is located in an area reserved for the leather industry by the country’s Ministry of Industry.

The project will allow the company to increase its production capacity to 10,000 shoes a day, compared to the 3,500 shoes a day it currently produces. It will produce 6,000 shoes a day for the first year while it completes new staff recruitment.

It currently has more than 1,200 employees and Anbessa intends to hire 600 more at the start of 2018. The Leather Industry Development Institute (LIDI) has helped train 90 employees for the factory, 60 of whom have already started work there.
