Women leathergoods entrepreneurs make their mark in Ethiopia

An Ethiopian government agency that promotes small-scale business start-ups, the Federal Micro and Small Scale Enterprise Agency, has paid tribute to the contribution leather start-ups have made to women entrepreneurs in the African country.

At an event to promote the agency in March, its director general, Asfaw Abebe, presented 20 women business owners, all of whom started from a scratch. Leather and leathergoods featured prominently among the products these entrepreneurs make.

Companies represented included Msgana Shoe, which makes shoes locally from local raw materials. It now has 15 small shops around Addis Ababa and has created job opportunities for 30 women.
