‘Cars of Our Years’ consisted of asking high-profile automotive figures to nominate cars that held special meaning for them. Those taking part included Andy Palmer, chief executive of Aston Martin, Peter Horbury, executive vice-president of Geely, Ian Callum, Jaguar design director, Giles Taylor, design director of Rolls-Royce, and Scottish racing drivers Jackie Stewart and Marino Franchitti.
After their nominations were put to a public vote, Jackie Stewart’s, the Jaguar E-type, emerged as the winner. He said: “The Jaguar E-type is, without a doubt, the most beautiful car that has ever been mass-produced. Ever since it was introduced in 1960 it has changed the course of car design and the industry for ever.”
In response, Bridge of Weir managing director, Karen Marshall, said: “We have been honoured to display such a wonderful selection of cars at Hampton Court Palace, and we have been genuinely touched by the stories from our friends and colleagues from the automotive world when nominating their Cars of Our Years. We’re delighted with the public vote winner – the Jaguar E-type, a true people’s champion.”
