BLC helps thwart seller of fake leather wallets

23/08/2017
A retailer in Wellingborough, a market town near to Northampton, has been ordered to pay more than £5,000 after advertising wallets made from PVC as genuine leather.

It followed an investigation by the trading standards team of Northamptonshire County Council into the online company, PGS Gifts.

The investigators made several test purchases of the wallets, which were analysed by the BLC Leather Technology Centre, based in Northampton. The tests found that the material used was not leather.

During a visit to the premises of PSG Gifts, it was discovered that labels inside the wallets stating they were made from PVC had been cut out before sale.
