Chinese version of Tannery of the Future to launch in Shanghai

Self-assessment tool Tannery of the Future has been translated into Chinese and the new version will launch officially on August 30 at a seminar in Shanghai. The seminar is free to attend, but registration is required.

Introduced in 2015, but in English only, Tannery of the Future invites tanners to assess themselves on 14 different aspects of corporate social responsibility as a first step, a prelude to full certification from, for example, the Leather Working Group.

The not-for-profit organising group behind Tannery of the Future, which includes Dutch leather chemicals group Smit & zoon, has said that the value in filling out the documents is that it provides “an initial indication” of the areas in which each facility can become more sustainable, providing references to sources of more in-depth information if required.
