A leather cutting plant that Austrian tanner Wollsdorf Leather runs in Varaždin in Croatia has won a prestigious award for its export performance.

The Varaždin business unit, which trades as Wollsdorf Components, has been awarded the Croatian government’s ‘Golden Key’ export award. Croatia’s deputy prime minister and minister for the economy, Martina Dalic, presented the award at a recent ceremony in the capital, Zagreb.

Wollsdorf’s operation in Croatia started at the end of 2014 on a 9,000 square-metre site on the outskirts of Varaždin. It now employs 350 people and has the capacity to cut 150,000 steering-wheel leather sets per week, using leather produced at the company’s tannery in Austria.

At the time of the presentation, chief executive, Andreas Kindermann, said everyone at the company is pleased that its youngest subsidiary has won this prize and he said that the fact that Croatia’s deputy prime minister made the presentation underscores the award’s importance.
