For the seventh year running, luxury group LVMH has taken part in Green Week, the European Commission’s annual environmental policy conference. The 2017 event (May 29-June 2) had as its theme, ‘Green jobs for a greener environment’.

LVMH said at the start of the week that its aim in taking part is to share initiatives designed to “engage all employees in driving the ecological transition”.

The luxury group explained that its approach has two “pillars”, an overall environmental department that it set up in 1992, and a network of environment managers at of the brands that make up the group. Environment director, Sylvie Bénard, said at the start of Green Week that this network now comprises 60 people.

Later in the week, the procurement manager for leathergoods at the Louis Vuitton brand, Fabrice Pailler, outlined the brand’s environmental audit strategy. He said: “We conduct regular onsite audits at our tanneries as well as at our raw materials suppliers to guarantee that the leather meets our environmental standards. After each audit we work with suppliers to implement an action plan to improve key areas such as water management or waste recovery.”
