11/05/2017
Representatives of the national organisations met recently in Brussels for the formal launch of the alliance and named France’s Arnaud Haefelin as its first president. His counterparts from Italy and Spain, Riccardo Braccialini and Roberto Sont, respectively, were both named as vice-presidents. The UK’s David Nathan will be ELGA’s first treasurer.
Mr Haefelin said he hopes the alliance will become a European showcase for the leathergoods sector and to contribute actively to industry debates.
ELGA went on to say its founding members share a common vision for the future of the European leathergoods industry and are committed to working hand in hand to tackle issues affecting the sector.
Aims include campaigning for fair access to export markets, promoting know-how and developing skills, creativity and innovation, fighting counterfeiting, but ELGA also said it wants to work to “ensure the authenticity of leather” and to help consumers make informed choices.
