The owner of the Australian cattle company S Kidman & Co, Hancock Prospecting, is preparing to sign a deal to sell as many as 800,000 cattle a year from the north of the country to be slaughtered and processed in China, according to local media reports.

The reports stated that the agreement with China’s New Hope Group is expected to be presented on May 14. They suggested that it would effectively double the size of Australia’s A$1.5 billion live cattle export industry.

Hancock, owned by Australia’s richest woman Gina Rinehart, was part of a consortium with Chinese developer Shanghai CRED that completed a deal worth A$386.5 million ($288.2 million) for Kidman in December 2016.
