Australia’s richest woman bolsters cattle empire

Hancock Prospecting, which is part of the consortium that owns Australian cattle company S Kidman & Co, has further added to its property portfolio with the acquisition of the Aroona cattle station in Northern Australia.

The company, which is owned by Australia’s richest women Gina Rinehart, completed a deal worth A$386.5 million ($288.2 million) for Kidman in December 2016. It was joined in the venture by Chinese developer Shanghai CRED.

The value of the deal for Aroona Station, which covers an area of nearly 150,000 hectares and holds around 15,000 head of cattle, has not been disclosed.

Ms Rinehart said the acquisition would complement Hancock’s existing investments in the north, which include three cattle operations it purchased in 2016.
