Sam Setter sets his sights on the snakeskin supply chain

Regular columnist Sam Setter has called into question the effectiveness of attempts to introduce traceability to the exotic leather supply chain. In his latest leatherbiz blog entry, Sam Setter says that efforts to use tags to keep track of python skins may work for identification but do not amount to a traceability system.

He says that even skins coming from registered python farms may originally be from other sources, and possibly even other countries.

Importantly, the column, available at this link, also questions the value of studies into the python population in countries such as Indonesia.
