Vanda reveals more details about “hypercar” ahead of launch

01/03/2017
Vanda Electrics, a Singapore-based company specialising in electric vehicles, has given automotive enthusiasts a glimpse of what it calls the country’s “first-ever hypercar”.

The vehicle, named Dendrobium after a flower native to Singapore, will be officially unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show (March 9-19) but the company has released further details in the build-up to the launch.

It will feature a fully automatic roof and doors, which open in a synchronised manner to mimic the dendrobium flower when it is fully-opened. Vanda recruited Williams Advanced Engineering to work on the Dendrobium’s aero features, composites and batteries. The group will also assist on future development.

The company also confirmed the news that leatherbiz.com reported in January; Scottish tanning company Bridge of Weir will provide the leather for the car’s interior. In line with Vanda’s commitment to reducing the emissions related to the car, it chose to use Low Carbon Leather from Bridge of Weir.

Bridge of Weir classifies its leather as “low carbon” because it has operated a thermal energy plant at its wet-end tannery since 2010. It takes what was previously sent straight to landfill and converts it into energy for heating the recycled water required in the manufacturing process.
