Tamil Nadu minister inaugurates IILF 2017
The thirty-second India International Leather Fair (IILF) was formally inaugurated on January 31 by the state of Tamil Nadu’s minister for the environment, Thiru Karuppannan, at a special ceremony in Chennai.

Main organiser, the India Trade Promotion Organisation, said 460 exhibitor companies had signed up to take part, with 150 of them from outside India. In all, 23 countries were represented on the exhibitor list, in addition to the host country. These companies occupied a total exhibition space of more than 10,000 square-metres.

ITPO said at the inauguration event that the leather industry in India employs 3 million people across the country, with what it called “the weaker sectors in society” well represented; for example, 30% of the total workforce is made up of women.
