UK meat exporters lay groundwork for US inspection
18/01/2017
The UK meat exporters met in Washington DC before visiting a number of facilities to gain a better understanding of different aspects of the US meat sector. These included: food safety and inspection service requirements, port of entry requirements, and the typical challenges facing overseas companies that export to the US market.
The visit is seen as a key step in preparing for an official inspection visit to the UK by US authorities, expected to take place at some time in 2017.
“The industry representatives found the visit very worthwhile and the preliminary training puts us in a good position to ensure that we are able to agree equivalence between UK and US regulatory requirements when the inspection visit takes place,” said Dr Phil Hadley, head of global supply chain development at AHDB Beef & Lamb.
