Export gloom continues for Pakistan’s leather sector
08/12/2016
Over the four-month period this year, tanners exported 4.4 million square-metres of finished leather, bringing in export revenues of $113.5 million. These figures represent a fall of more than 25% in volume compared to the same period last year and a 10% decline in revenues.
Revenue figures for exports of leather products showed a fall of 8.1% year on year; finished product manufacturers (excluding shoe companies) achieved exports worth $167.8 million between July and October 2016, with more than 60% of that revenue coming from leather garments and 33% from gloves.
With regard to footwear, manufacturers exported just over 3 million pairs of shoes over the period, bringing in $31.4 million, so that, although export volumes were down by 7.8%, with a price per pair of more than $10, the value was up by more than 1%.
