EU farming body warns on Mercosur trade deal

“A new European trade impact study confirms the catastrophic impact that future trade deals could have on the EU beef industry unless tariff-rate quotas are imposed, especially the deal that is being negotiated with Mercosur,” he said at an event organised by Copa-Cogeca in Brussels.
“We believe that a potential trade deal with Mercosur could have a serious effect on the EU beef industry,” he added.
He also expressed concerns over the safety standards in Mercosur countries. “These countries are subject to the same quality standards as those of the EU and there are still concerns over how safe meat production is there”.
