New Sam Setter column on upholding the leather industry’s values

Regular columnist Sam Setter has said in a new column that chemicals manufacturers supplying the leather industry must challenge colleagues in other business units in their own companies if they misuse the term ‘leather’ when talking about synthetic materials.

In a new blog entitled ‘Animal welfare’, which features on the blog section of the website (and in the latest issue of electronic newsletter Leatherbiz Weekly), Sam Setter suggests that companies making chemicals for use in the tanning process have a duty to keep references to leather out of any news releases or other communications aimed at the synthetic materials market.

However, the column makes it clear that everyone in the industry shares the duty of upholding leather’s values and its commitment to the environment, animal welfare, sustainability and social responsibility.
