Leather art project inspires LVMH
Luxury group LVMH has announced that it will run regular artist-in-residence programmes after the success of a project at one of its tanneries earlier this year.

Between January and June 2016 , French artist Thomas Mailaender took up residency at the Tanneries Roux leather making facility in Romans-sur-Isère. This resulted in a set of 30 works, all printed on leather.

Afterwards, Mr Mailaender said the six-month residency had given him “an absolutely fabulous opportunity to work with leather by drawing inspiration from an immersion into the amazing heritage and savoir-faire at Tanneries Roux”.

LVMH has now said it wants the dialogue between artists and artisans to continue, not least because it believes this will inspire innovation in its production processes.
