Leather Pipeline says electric cars present a big opportunity
Production levels remain relatively healthy among automotive tanners for the moment, some well informed players have said that there are warnings from some brands that budgets will have to be adjusted by 10%-15 % in the near future. That’s one of the main messages contained in the October 4 issue of our exclusive Leather Pipeline market intelligence report, which appears in the latest Leatherbiz Weekly.

There are also rumours, Leather Pipeline says, that some European automotive brands will close for an extended period of time over Christmas this year.

The report goes on to say that the entire automotive industry seems to be focused on electric or hybrid cars. It continues: “A change to new energy concepts may be the biggest opportunity for the industry. In many countries the decline in sales of combustion engines is being discussed and one can see how quickly all brands are trying to present new models following the trend. It is pretty obvious that in the next decade across the world classic petrol and diesel engines will lose market share quickly and this is a great chance for the industry to sell more vehicles again.”

The big questions that flow from this centre on which companies are going to build those new vehicles, and on what the “new mobility” will mean for the car interior.
