Gruppo Mastrotto sales director, Andreas Seifert, has told World Leather that the Italian company’s new Leather Fashion Hub in London is part of a wider strategy for the tanning group to establish in all of the world’s major fashion capitals. It already has a presence in New York and in Florence and several other centres around the world and will soon, Mr Seifert said, set up something similar to the new Leather Fashion Hub in Paris too.

“We are not just here to sell,” he explained at the opening of the new facility in London, “we are here to learn too. London is a place where there is contemporary creativity and it will be an inspiration for us.”

Mr Seifert went on to say that everyone at the company knows Gruppo Mastrotto needs “to keep improving” because in a marketplace that is intensely competitive. He explained: “There are thousands of tanners, lots of companies making fantastic product, especially in Italy but in Asia too. Customers are becoming more and more demanding; it’s no longer a question of helping them prepare just two collections a year, it’s much more than that now and because of that, and because we export 80% of our leather now, a proportion that is increasing every year, it means we have to be organised and we have to be good.”
