Before being allowed to enter Taiwan, the shipment underwent four days of review concerning label data and safety certificates, as well as being subject to sample inspections. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found no violations and so a permit was issued. So far, it is the only one to have been issued.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare announced in July that imports of boneless and bone-in beef, and other meat products from Canadian cattle under 30 months of age would be permitted. Taiwan imposed the temporary suspension in February 2015 due to concerns over ‘mad cow disease (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) in Canada.
