Chanel acquires a second French lambskin tannery
Luxury brand Chanel is to acquire a second small-skins tannery in southern France.

Chanel acquired lambskin tannery Bodin-Joyeux at the end of 2013. It has now announced its acquisition of a majority stake in Mégisserie Richard, a family-run small-skins tannery in Millau. It said it wanted to gain better control over its supply chain by purchasing French lambskin tannery Richard. The cost of the acquisition has not been revealed.

Mégisserie Richard is based in the French department of Aveyron. It has been in business since 1852 and specialises in lambskins from the Lacaune and Entrefino breeds.

Richard employs approximately 40 people and 60% of its production is exported. It has long been a supplier of lambskin to the luxury industry, with particular focus on the small leathergoods market.

"This acquisition will sustain a vital link in the leather production chain and offers the opportunity to strengthen Chanel's leather industry excellence,” said Bruno Pavlovsky, president of fashion at Chanel.

"The Richard tannery will continue working with its clients, without exclusivity, in line with a defined strategy followed by Chanel as part of its acquisitions," Chanel added.
