Salvatore Ferragamo to fund Florence fountain project
Luxury brand Salvatore Ferragamo will donate €1.5 million over the next three years to help fund the restoration of Florence’s Fountain of Neptune. The fountain, in the Tuscan city’s Piazza della Signoria, was commissioned in 1565 by Cosmo de Medici and sculpted by Bartolomeo Ammannati.

On making the announcement, the luxury group’s chairman, Ferruccio Ferragamo, said his company’s support of Florence’s cultural activities and helping to restore the city’s architectural assets is an example of “a virtuous partnership between the public and the private sectors”. He said he also viewed it as a way for his family to thank the city and recognise “the close bond” forged by Salvatore Ferragamo and still in place today.

He said: “Everything we have done over the years has been a way for us to express our gratitude to Florence for what it has given us.”
