Pakistan leather export declines continue

Another month, another report of declines in the value and volume of exports from leather sector companies in Pakistan.

According to the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics, the sector brought in export earnings valued at almost $825 million in the first ten months of the current financial year (July 2015-April 2016), a decline of 19% compared to the same months in the previous financial year.

Tanners contribued just under $300 million to this total and exported a volume of 13.5 million square-metres of finished leather over the ten-month period. These figures represent falls of 27% in value and of 26% in volume, year on year.

The volume of footwear exports was flat at 10.9 million pairs, but in terms of value this segment registered a decline of 18%.
