Tunisian leather industry attempts to rise again with new event

Observers at the inaugural edition of an exhibition called Medleather, which took place in Hammamet last month, have said it appeared to be an attempt on the part of the Tunisian leather and footwear sector to relaunch itself following the period of instability the North African country has experienced since the 2010 Jasmine Revolution.

Tanners and manufacturers of footwear, clothing and handbags took part in the event; a seminar on innovation in the leather sector was also part of the programme.

Tunisia previously hosted an event called Promocuir, but it was last held in 2008.
