New ZDHC portal can help tanners

Amsterdam-based ZDHC represents 22 apparel and footwear brands that it says are “leading the path towards eliminating key chemicals in the global value-chain”. Its MRSL lists chemicals that are banned in facilities that process materials for apparel and footwear, including leather.
The new portal, called the ZDHC Chemical Registry, will go live in August and will include a comprehensive list of chemical products and an MRSL conformance assessment for each. It will provide materials manufacturers, including tanners, with documentation to check the conformance of each chemical product they use in their processes.
“We’re excited to be announcing the development of an open, flexible data portal to assist brands, suppliers and chemical companies assess a chemical’s compliance against the MRSL,” said ZDHC executive director, Frank Michel, on announcing the development. “Without this type of portal, each manufacturer would need to assess every product from each of their chemical suppliers against the MRSL to ensure conformance. Our goal is to provide a simple, easy, inexpensive way to provide this information to all stakeholders.”
