BFC aims to raise £10 million for Education Foundation
The British Fashion Council (BFC) has announced that this year’s Fashion Awards will raise funds for the organisation’s Education Foundation. The Foundation was set up to support up-and-coming designers and the BFC aims to raise £10 million over the next ten years to invest in young talent.

This money will be put to use to support the annual Graduate Preview Day when industry professionals have the chance to view the emerging talent from top fashion colleges in the UK.

The BFC also announced the creation of a fashion studio assistant apprenticeship alongside the University of the Arts London, who will award the qualification. The scheme will be open to designers but will also contribute to all levels of the fashion business by offering career paths in other areas of the fashion industry.

“The UK has undoubtedly the world’s leading reputation when it comes to art schools. The BFC is dedicated to securing future talent and establishing pathways through education and into employment,” said Caroline Rush, chief executive of the BFC.

The apprenticeship will launch in October 2016. It will feature a six-month foundation core followed by twelve months focused on one area of the industry. The areas are production development, sales and logistics or fashion marketing and communications.
