AQSIQ demands for hide exporters to China could take effect by year-end

31/03/2016
As reported on leatherbiz in October China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine body, AQSIQ, is poised to impose new requirements on companies that process or store hides and skins before shipping the raw material to tanners in China.

Speaking to industry media in Hong Kong on March 31, the president of the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), Su Chaoying, said the new policy has not yet been implemented but may take effect before the end of 2016.

He explained that, in keeping with earlier reports, suppliers of hides and skins will have to register in their own countries. “Exporting governments will pass the details on to AQSIQ,” Mr Su said.

He confirmed that AQSIQ audit inspection teams will visit samples of “a select few” sites.
