Hide exporters will have to register with China’s AQSIQ

The International Council of Hides, Skins and Leather Traders Association (ICHSLTA) has informed its members that they are going to have to apply for registration with China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine body, AQSIQ.

ICHSLTA said in a statement issued at the start of October that all companies that process or store hides will have to register with AQSIQ if they want to export hides to China.

This directive does not apply to brokers or traders. It said hide exporters will receive contact from their own national health authorities first, asking them to apply for AQSIQ registration. National bodies will then submit a list of approved premises to AQSIQ in Beijing.

“AQSIQ wants to check that country control systems are credible and that good surveillance is in place,” ICHSLTA explained.
