Export volumes up for US hides in January, but revenues fall

17/03/2016
Figures for the first month of 2016 show that exports of US hides increased in volume, in comparison to the same month in 2015, but reduced in value, reflecting a fall in industry-wide hide prices in the course of last year.

The figures for January 2016 show that tanners and traders in the US exported just over 2.1 million hides to customers overseas that month, bringing in revenue of $148.6 million.

These numbers compare to a volume of almost 1.8 million hides in the same month in 2015, which indicates an increase this January of 16.7%. However, in terms of value, the figure for January 2016 is 11.5% lower than that for the same month in 2015 ($167.9 million).

These figures come from the US Hide, Skin and Leather Association (USHSLA).
