Vietnam slightly more cautious about leather export growth

Recent statement from industry body in Vietnam, Lefaso, have presented a slightly more cautious prediction for growth in 2016 than the same organisation hinted at earlier this year.

Figures for 2015 show export value of $15 billion, with shoes contributing $12 billion and handbags the other $3 billion. This represented an increase compared to 2014 of 16%.

At the start of 2016, Lefaso was quoted in Vietnamese media as saying growth this year would likely be around 20%. However, more recent statements suggest a figure of 13% may be closer to the mark, taking exports of leather shoes and leathergoods from Vietnam to a projected $17 billion this year.
