Australia prepares for lowest cattle herd in 24 years

It said a combination of high cattle prices and ongoing drought, particularly in Queensland, would reduce the national herd. It predicted that Australia’s cattle herd would fall to 26.2 million head by the end of June and gradually decline again in 2017, to 25.9 million head.
If this occurs, it will represent a 12% decline since 2013 and give Australia its smallest herd for 24 years.
