Poor summer so far for Buenos Aires leathergoods retailers

15/02/2016
Specialist leather apparel and leathergoods retailers in Buenos Aires have said the high price of leather and a fall in the number of tourists have made the current summer season one of the poorest in decades.

Shops on the Buenos Aires streets of Florida and Murillo have complained that increases in the cost of leather have forced their prices higher than the rate of inflation in Argentina, putting local buyers off. At the same time, a devaluation in Brazil’s currency last year has reduced the numbers of tourists visiting from there this summer.

A report in newspaper La Nación quoted a number of Florida and Murillo retailers as saying the last year has been the worst for business in living memory.
