Israel reopens to US beef

19/01/2016
Israel has reopened to US beef after banning imports in 2003 following a BSE case in the US.

Although Israel imposes strict kosher slaughter and handling requirements on its beef suppliers, US Meat Export Federation CEO Philip Seng says there could be opportunities in the market for some US companies.

Currently, Argentina and Uruguay are Israel’s largest beef suppliers, followed by Brazil and Paraguay.

Israel also imports small volumes from Australia and the European Union.
