The Brazilian government’s statistics agency, IBGE, has announced that cattle slaughter in the third quarter of 2015 was down by 10.8% compared to the same period in 2014.

Across Brazil, packers slaughtered just over 7.5 million head of cattle in the three-month period in officially inspected abattoirs. The figure for the third quarter in 2014 was almost 8.5 million.

IBGE said Brazilian tanners had taken delivery of almost 8.1 hides in the July-September period, mostly from abattoirs, but some from hide traders too. This figure is a drop of 12.2% on the volume of raw material Brazilian tanners received during the same quarter last year.
