10/12/2015
At the event, which took place in Glasgow on December 10, a panel comprising sustainability director of Stahl, Mike Tomkin, industry consultant Federico Brugnoli, Iain McFadyen, managing director of the Scottish Leather Group, the chief executive of specialist laboratory services provider Ars Tinctoria, Gustavo Adrian Defeo, Tony Covington, emeritus professor of leather science at the University of Northampton and Philippe Richard, secretary general of the International Chromium Development Association answered questions on the future of European leather, with Simon Yarwood moderating.
There were questions on many aspects of the industry, but the panel were invited to give special consideration to how they thought successful tanneries might function ten years from now. This led to discussions on where tanneries are likely to be located in 2025, how they are likely to manage their raw resources and the product information they are likely to be obliged to offer their customers and end consumers.
