Zambia is to receive a loan of $30 million from the African Development Bank to finance a project aimed at developing skills and small business opportunities among women and young people.

As part of the project 10 new industrial zones will emerge, five in urban and five in rural areas, to increase the competitiveness of micro, small and medium businesses in Zambia in a limited range of sectors, including artisan leathergoods manufacture.

Government figures suggest the project will help around 1,000 small businesses and create at least 4,000 jobs among the country’s women and young people.
