09/10/2015
At the invitation of current COTANCE president, Jonathan Muirhead, delegates will also be able to take part in a visit to the Scottish Leather Group’s tannery at Bridge of Weir, near Glasgow, on the morning of December 11; Mr Muirhead is chairman of the Scottish Leather Group. The facility at Bridge of Weir won the award for Tannery of the Year for Europe in 2010.
With environmental issues as the theme for the fourth COTANCE seminar on December 10, the event will include keynote presentations from industry consultant Federico Brugnoli on the carbon footprint of leather and from Mike Tomkin, sustainability director at leather chemicals manufacturer Stahl, on research and development in the leather industry.
COTANCE secretary general, Gustavo Gonzalez Quijano, and deputy secretary general of trade union organisation industriAll (COTANCE’s partner for the seminar series) will speak about ‘A Future for European Leather’ and put the discussion about environmental issues into the context of the wider programme.
The day will conclude with a panel discussion moderated by the chief executive and publisher of World Leather, Simon Yarwood. Taking into account the facts and opinions gathered at all four seminars, Mr Yarwood and a panel of invited speakers will attempt to map out what the Tannery of the Year might look like in 2025.
