PTA raises hopes of refunds on export duty

Reports from Pakistan say prime minister, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, is preparing a new package of incentives for exporters. The country’s leather industry has welcomed the development and has called on the government to honour an earlier agreement to include finished leather among the export products for which manufacturers can claim back export duties.

The Pakistan Tanners’ Association (PTA) went as far as to say it hoped the government would allow its member companies to back-date claims for refunds of export duties to May 2012.
