Australia’s cattle herd could hit a 20-year low in 2016

Partly owing to the success of Australian beef in export markets, industry experts there are predicting that the herd size in Australia could be at a 20-year low in 2016 with numbers around 26 million head.

Meat and Livestock Australia has predicted that beef exports in 2015 could surpass the existing record volume of 400,000 tonnes.

Drought in the US encouraged importers of beef to look at Australia as an alternative source in recent years, which in turn has led to high slaughter levels in Australia.
