Top three spot for Igualada leather museum

29/09/2015
The leather museum in the traditional Catalan tanning town of Igualada registered just over 63,000 visitors in 2014.

This represents a slight decline (0.9%) compared to the figure for 2013, but the general trend remains positive: the 2014 visitor total was up by 1.3% compared to 2012 and by more than 25% compared to 2011.

Last year, it was one of the top three museums, in terms of visitor numbers, in the province of Barcelona, excluding the Catalan capital itself. Popular initiatives include a free guided tour on the first Sunday of each month, which explores the industry’s use of water, the world of leather and the work of tanners.

Igualada is still home to 25 active tanneries and to the leather innovation faculty of the Igualada Engineering School.
