Pisa posts export growth for Q2 despite tanning sector slide

The province of Pisa has registered 6.5% growth in exports in the second quarter of 2015 compared to the same quarter in 2014.

However, this overall result came in spite of declines in exports for the province’s important leather and footwear industries.

Pisa’s tanneries, most of which operate in the Santa Croce cluster, posted a 4.4% downturn in exports for the quarter compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, footwear manufacturers in the province reported a downturn in export revenues of 6.1%.
